Haiti Earthquake – Why? The Story Nobody Has Told You!
Jack Nicholson uttered this famous line in A few Good Men: "You can't handle the truth!" Only about 1/100 of one per cent of Christians can handle the whole truth about Haiti and the disastrous earthquake there.
We will give you part of the truth, and pray that many will have their eyes and ears opened to understand the truth of which so few are aware. we give a sanitized version here since the truth is shocking to some. the uncut version is on our Freedom Church of God web site. we thank our Father that the Holy Spirit will guide believers into the truth (John 16:13).
I must begin by saying that for many years I pastored French-speaking congregations in Europe and Quebec, of which some were Haitians. my assistant pastor in Quebec City had been pastor of a church in Haiti. I stopped in Haiti on a ministry trip to Martinique and Guadeloupe in 1987. I have a special affection for the French-speaking peoples in the Caribbean islands. They speak a beautiful French (I don't yet understand much Creole) and tend to have childlike attitudes.
They are lovely people. They have nevertheless been victim of a phenomenon that is naively misunderstood in most of North America.
Many Christians think curses are a non-issue in the church. They have a navet that is not found in Haiti.
I was giving a Bible study years ago to some family and friends when I visited my native South Carolina. the subject was curses, a subject I treat in the book, why Doesn't God Heal Me? my family expressed disbelief that curses could have an effect on Christians.
Amazed at their doubt, I turned to a local lady who was Haitian. I said, "Marie, have you ever heard of someone dying of a voodoo curse?" her answer revealed that this was a common occurrence in Haiti. It is a fact that a former president of Haiti recently changed the national constitution to make voodoo the state religion. There are consequences for such decisions.
Because of those consequences, it is necessary to activate the wisdom of Jesus when praying for those in Haiti who are in such dire need.
That is why that unless you have activated the gift of tongues, available to all believers, you would be wise to refrain from praying for the nation itself. Only the Holy Spirit can pray the perfect prayer, praying the exact will of God (Rom. 8:27).
God warned Jeremiah, "As for you, do not pray for this people, and do not lift up cry or prayer for them, and do not intercede with Me; for I do not hear you" (Jer. 7:16).
The nation Jeremiah addressed was worshipping the queen of heaven, not Mary, but Astarte or Semiramis (Jer. 7:18). They had made their decision. Jesus knew he had to allow them to go through certain sufferings before they came to repentance.
You may remember the story of Nineveh, the childhood Bible account you heard about Jonah and the whale (it was a big fish, not a whale). the only path to survival as a city was for everyone (including the animals in this case) to fast: "But both man and beast must be covered with sackcloth; and let men call on God earnestly that each may turn from his wicked way and from the violence which is in his hands" (Jonah 3:8).
Miracle of miracles, they did fast, all of them! And God saved the city.
This is the kind of repentance that would turn the nation of Haiti around, but we will probably have to wait on Jesus' return to earth to heal Haiti completely.please do not misunderstand what we are saying. God did not cause this earthquake, nor did he bring about the untold suffering that ensued. Satan did. Sin and sinful covenants are not without consequences. Jesus will redeem the situation. It must, however, be done according to his laws and in his timing.
People, including believers, don't like to hear about cause and effect. yet unless confession and repentance comes, you cannot stop that automatic law God has put in motion. he gives us free will. when we make the wrong choices, we suffer the effects. we reap what we sow (Gal. 6:7). And unless we meet the biblical criteria for change, we cannot place the cross of Jesus between us and the law of sowing and reaping. the suffering comes usually from either rebellion or a lack of knowledge (Hos. 4:6).
Furthermore, wrong prayers for people who have set their wills against God can cause serious backlash. Do-gooders do not always "do good." They usually do things in the flesh and follow the crowd rather than asking God's direction.
God directed us to pray for the Dominican Republic rather than concentrate our prayers on Haiti. we have compassion, of course, on the people of Haiti, especially the believers, and we can certainly pray for strength and comfort for the survivors. Nevertheless, praying for the nation can bring major backlash.
Many Christians in the neighboring Dominican Republic sensed that a disaster was imminent. They fasted and prayed for protection. It worked! not a building fell. not a single shingle was ripped off a house.
Satan heard those prayers, and his plan is to bring corruption and destruction to the Dominican Republic. we thank our Father that because of our prayers this will not happen! we call on believers to stand against Satan for trying to sink the Dominican Republic. we also thank our Father love that he will touch all those fleeing Haiti with the spirit of repentance so that, subject to their will and his, they will receive the real Jesus.
Millions of dollars of supplies are flooding into Haiti, but Satan, the god of this world, will try to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). the surest solution is to pray, "Thy Kingdom come!" we are in the time of tribulation already, as witnessed by what some have called, referring to the Haitian catastrophe, the greatest disaster in history. This gospel of the Kingdom of God is going out as a witness (Mat. 24:14) so that the time of trouble can be cut short. the only real hope is for the imminent return of the real Jesus to bring peace and order to Haiti and the entire world, ending the suffering and bringing his shalom, his wholeness and healing. God speed that day!
